Girls varsity soccer coach Kathy Childress has returned to the classroom after coaching for 13 years. JV girls soccer coach of four years Brandon Tatum stepped up and took over as the new varsity coach this season With this new position, Tatum feels very optimistic and excited.

Tatum would like the team to qualify for conferences like they have in previous years, but also create a team that works hard and creates spectacular student athletes.

Tatum is looking forward to playing challenging teams and winning some games.

“Varsity is more demanding than JV,” Tatum says.

He is determined to keep up the success that Childress maintained in previous seasons. The girls on varsity are also excited for what’s coming.

“I think it’s a new step for the girls soccer program, and also a big change. We are adjusting to his style of coaching and I think we have made improvements from his different perspective,” says player Hailey Hickman.

As for Childress, stepping down is bittersweet. You can now find her in room 214 teaching freshman science and earth science.

“It was the right time and I was ready for a new chapter,”  Childress said.

Her hopes are high for the future of girls’ soccer knowing that Tatum is very knowledgeable of the game.

According to Childress her favorite part was getting to be a part of a great team of girls, the bus rides, and beating Barlow.

The girls’ soccer team is excited for upcoming seasons, and  taking home some wins, as well as finishing each season strong.
