Girls Track and Field Preview

Track and field will soon be starting and the athletes are ready for a new season. They are also ready to win many events for the team. Many new beginners and many improved female athletes are ready to succeed in the new season of track and field.

This season Sophomore Citlaly Arroyo will be returning to track and field and she is ready to improve and break her personal records (PR’s). Each sport season Arroyo has done double sports, and many of them have provided conditioning for this upcoming sport season. Arroyo has improved her track times when doing double sports.

“I am definitely working on my stamina, getting faster, breaking my records and trying better in practice since I run slowly in practice,” Arroyo said.

Arroyo has accomplished many events in track outside and during the school season and she eats small portions of food when out doing sports. She has overcome her first year as a freshman with being on varsity and running with juniors and seniors. For Arroyo it was very surreal to run against juniors and seniors because she was one of the few freshmen to be able to.

Her ultimate achievement has been being able to do four sports this year and being able to balance herself through the year. Arroyo points out that middle school and high school is different, because middle school track and field go against grade and in high school people go against basically everyone. She sets her goals by checking her times and knowing she could do better next time and improve on that specific time.

“Push yourself and don’t underestimate yourself,” Arroyo said.

Beginning this season Sophomore My Tungkongnuch will also be returning to track and field season, but will be mainly focusing on field events. Tungkongnuch’s events are javelin and discus, but Tungknoguch is ready to focus on improving on throwing the javelin.

“Throwing farther on both events and improving the scores of last year and to begin a new season with a great improvement,” Tungkongnuch said.

Tungkongnuch eats healthier when playing this sport. She will be returning because she loves the javelin. Tungkongnuch’s coach taught her many skills that improve her events. Last year on her last event she finally broke her own record and estimates she got 54 inches on her javelin.

“Don’t quit track and don’t give up on yourself because I had shin splints,” Tungkongnuch said.

Freshman Natalie Lopez will be participating in her first year of high school track and she is ready to start her season. Her main focus is going on the field and track. Lopez’s events will be track, shotput and discus. Lopez is ready to overcome her obstacle on going on with the upper class.

“I can improve on getting my form right on my shotput,” Lopez said.

Her biggest accomplishments have been finishing fifth on the 100 meter in middle school track. Lopez has been practicing outside of school and glad that she will still be doing track and field.

Lopez is looking forward to seeing how her first year of being a freshman out on the field as well as experiencing high school track and field. Also, meeting new people and new coaches out this season.

“If you want it go get it because practice makes perfect,” Lopez said.track
