GHS opens doors for 8th grade information

Next year, incoming freshman will starting a new chapter in their lives by coming to high school. Whether they are prepared or not is up to them.

Coming to high school will cause a big change in the upcoming ninth graders’ lives and they will need to be prepared for this big change. According to freshman Mercedez Ahumada, classes will be harder and they will be getting a lot more work. Things will be different from when they were in middle school and they will need to expect this immediate difference.

“Some advice I would give the incoming freshman would be to try your hardest and ask for help when you need it,” Freshman Rylee Myers said. “The worst thing you can do is be confused and just put it behind you or not ask for help and not understand.”

Ahumada also stated that your freshman year is one of the most important years of high school because it is setting up for the next three years. A lot of freshman do not realize how important their first year of high school is until it is too late.

“It is important to stay ahead on your work because in the end, you could end up being behind and stressed about graduating or having to retake classes,” Ahumada said.

According to Myers, you can start falling behind really fast, so it is important to stay focused and on top of your work.
“A wise man once told me show me your friends and I will show you your future.  This is so true. You also have to get involved in high school.  Get connected to your school and community.  Clubs, Band, Choir, Drama, Sports, volunteering on and on.  You have to be connected in order to gain all you can out of high school.  Lastly, seek out assistance when you need it.  Nothing is more valuable in high school than the ability to ask for help when you need it.” Vice principal Jason Bhear said.
