Cross Country: From the eyes of the members

With the fall season coming to a close, athletes reflect on their times in cross country. This season in cross country has been filled with sweat, fun and a whole lot of spaghetti.

The night before every meet, the team gets together at a member’s house for a spaghetti feed. This creates a bonding experience for the team and a chance to get together before the meet.

“My favorite part of cross country is the spaghetti feed before every meet,” Senior My Tungkongnuch said. “That is where we bond the most.”

During practices, members are split up based on their times. The fastest group runs the most, while the slowest group runs the least, and different lengths in between.

Everyone’s personal goal is to beat their best time, or personal record, during a meet. For the athletes involved, the cross country team is one big family, and everyone is there to help one another get better.

“My most memorable race was at Hudson Bay, I ran my first varsity race and pr’d by almost a minute.” junior Evan Olson said.

Members feel as if cross country does not get enough credit for something that is so hard to do. Running in cross country helps you get involved with the school and get in shape. With the season almost over, members look to improve during the off-season and return next season better than ever.

“Cross country is not an easy sport, but the coaches and your teammates will push you through,” Tungkongnuch said.
