Fall Player Recognition
January 30, 2018
After a good season, student athletes deserve to be recognized. The Gresham women’s soccer program has a player that is always working hard and playing tough on the field. Varsity sophomore, Abbie Soulagnet was named one of the all-conference midfielders for the 2017 season. An all-conference award is when a student athlete gets noticed as an outstanding player on the field.
Teammate Hailey Hickman would describe her as a “tank” on the soccer field, never letting anyone stop her from scoring her team a goal. All of her teammates can expect her to go out on that field and work hard doing nothing but her best.
“My biggest accomplishment this season was probably being a conference midfielder, last year I was sort of upset that I wasn’t able to be a candidate since I was in goal,” Soulagnet said.
She was honored and surprised to receive this award and said that it felt good to know that she stood out on the field.
Soulagnet says her goals for the upcoming seasons are to lead by example, push herself harder, and welcome newcomers to the team with open arms.
Passion plays a big role in sports. If you are passionate enough about the sport then you will achieve your goals. Soccer takes endurance, a good mind set, and a winner attitude.
“It sounds a little strange, but the field almost seems separate from the real world. When you’re playing, you forget about your problems, there’s nothing on your mind but soccer,” Soulagnet said.
Soulagnet has a positive attitude on the field and is always encouraging her teammates to do their best. She plays a big role on the team and the Gresham soccer program is fortunate to have her on the team.
